Fender Doncaster

It's good to be back!

Thanks to everyone who came down to the gig at The Vintage Rock bar in Doncaster last night, and a special 'hey up' to soundman Rob and promoter Millie for putting on a great show. We had a great time on stage, and the enthusiastic crowd was just the cherry on the M&S chocolate cheesecake.

Something for the geeks - for some time now Gwyn (aka Clint) has been playing a white guitar which says Fender Doncaster guitar on the headstock, which was custom faked by John White a few years ago. However, we now hear rumours that there really was a guitar by Fender called the Doncaster. Can anyone confirm this rumour?

well, google doesn't know of it's existence, so it doesn't exist.

whereas if you search for god, there are about 463,000,000 results, so god does exist

There was a music mag article many yearts ago sating that Leo Fender had been to Yorkshire and was inspired to create both the Fender Doncaster and Fender Tadcaster. I believe this article was in an April issue. I used to have a photo copy of this as a mate had the mag, but I've lost it.

There was a center piece in one of the leading guitar mags some years ago, focusing on the 'Doncaster' and the 'Tadcaster'.

There were statements claiming that these were infact built by Leo Fender during his time over here during the war (when he should have been busy elsewhere doing the military thing, apparently), the article continues to say that they were confiscated from him for this very reason.

After speaking with a local guitar buff, he informed me that this was all dramatised (or fake) and that they do not actually exist!

If they did, im pretty sure he'd own at least one as he seems to own the rest of the stock!

As I said in my last post this was the April issue of the mag. I think this will be the centre piece J is referring to.

I remember the guitar mag article the original shapes were inspired by the nearby cooling towers of power stations Leo saw whilst serving with the US army based in Yorkshire during ww2. I remember a part of said article that these prototype guitars are priceless and will remain in a museum! Where is this museum? Or was it an elaborate April fools joke? Its had me thinking for years!
